Most of you probably know about this run coming up, and I was wondering about the venue. Never been and I just scored some tickets for the 25th and I am pretty excited about it. Last time I saw them was in '08 at Penn State. So, my question> The Beacon, what is it like and how is the sound in there? It looks beautiful in there.

I just went to the Beacon for Jorma's birhtday gigs in Dec. The place is beautiful and the restoration is stellar. It is really like stepping back in time and going out to a real fancy ornate theater. The sound will always differ because most groups especially the Allmans will have their own system. Putting that aside still the acoustics are very clear because of drapes and baffeles high up. We had lodge seats so no one could stand in your way and for us it was dead center perfect.

One of the best places to see a show in NYC ! Medium size but still intimate - holds about 2,800, sight lines are excellent almost everywhere except extreme sides, and generally the acoustics are terrific, especially lower levels. A good friend went to see the Allmans last time (they play the Beacon almost every year) and they thought they really put on a great show, jammed on forever.

caveat: long lines for ladies' room....

Saw them at the orpheum up in beantown in November, a little rusty (had to be expected) but overall a great show. They did some stuff off greg's new cd and some new covers plus some great old classiscs! It was a 3 hour show and great. My guess is that will be much better at these March shows! Have a great time and enjoy Derek and Warren playing off each other

Youre in for a treat, Tim! The Beacon is a cool venue with excellent acoustics. It was recently refurbished so things should be pretty sympatico! If you like sushi, there are some decent Japanese restaurants on Columbus Ave near that neighborhood. Enjoy the show...

I knew I liked Derek Trucks, but Wow! That's a double shot of expresso. A reviewer mentioned a, 'My Favorite Things' tease from 1:22 to 1:34 in Desdemona and I tend to agree with them. Oteil Burbridge just kicks it on bass throughout.
With my eyes closed I heard some Duane on, 'Rocking Horse'.

So far, DT is the best guitarist of his generation.

Derek was an excellent angler as well (shameless plug)...

CH, Man of Mystery

So how was the trip?
If you reverse his weight to the other leg, it's almost his guitar 'stance'.

I know it's on the list of topics for discussion we never got to. Perhaps at the next lunch?

Derek has great hands, he's very skilled with a fishing rod. We didn't catch any large Stripers that afternoon, but we did catch some fish on light tackle, as well as a nice Fluke. Mike Matteson was on the trip as well. Unfortunately Kofi didn't make it. I would have loved asking him about his brother. Did you know that Oteil had a very small speaking role (with Peter Sellers) in Being There?

Sko, they sure have a busy homepage, so if you don't mind I'll ask you. Are DT, BT and WH playing? Do they have some vocal assistance for GA's vocals, or does he not sing much anymore? I think I may go, it's been a good decade plus since I've seen them.
I always weigh one of the last show(s) of run. Burnt or reaching for the stars?

I will be interested in how Gregg is doing after the transplant for sure. Warren handles anything Gregg does not generally speaking insofar as vocals are concerned.

What a great photo. But Dickey Betts should be in that photo with Duane. Seems like ABB just seems to ignore the fact that he was a strong part of it all for many a years.
